The double

Specialist reviews in my profession are a very important contribution of knowledge but also of discoveries. Today I would like to tell you about the solaris magazine for which I have an annual subscription and which I read regularly. This journal contains a set of short texts written by several international authors. The main theme is fantasy and science fiction. I think that when a review is qualitative and monthly it is interesting. As a quantity of information, this is more easily manageable than too frequent publications. As a professional, I would like to write under contract for a specialist reviews related to my activity. The adventure seems exciting to me.

That said, one of the articles that interested me the most concerns a notion that is widely used in literature, cinema and other arts, it is the double. This double that can be an enemy or an ally and this in several other spatio-temporal dimensions. Sometimes it is an alter ego that questions us about this other self.

This literary process is not easy to implement. I advise you to test it in your story with one of the characters and to evaluate whether it is necessary, whether it brings new light to the discourse you want.

Meeting around large print publishing

The meeting around the edition in large print took place online on Thursday, March 28, 2024 on the website of Occitanie book and reading. It is part of the reading for all. This event brought together several professionals around a theme related to the accessibility of the book.

I participated in this meeting which seem interesting for the artists here is a little report on this subject. The interventions of several participants including a visual disability awareness association and a specialized publishing house.

One of the most important information for reading adapted books concerns the font used, its size and the fact that it is necessarily without serif. The text needs to be formatted (paragraph, leading, etc.) too. A font has been developed following several studies, firefly is available on this website.

Avignon festival 2023

This year I went to the Avignon festival for about one of my artistic projects. This allowed me to connect and establish contacts but also to discover new live shows.

I made the choice to explore several themes such as burlesque which is close to musical theater and also to revisit certain classics such as William Shakespeare.

My visit to the off village was very rewarding on a professional level. I attended an author’s conference (interview of Michèle Gazier by Harold David) as well as a round table on theatrical writing, three different profiles of artists working in live performance exchange their experiences with the public.

Characters creation

During the writing process of Fantastic L.A, I drew sometimes elements of the story. To create the fictional character of Hortensia Tercero, I was inspired by the first women’s fencing competitions. The action takes place in the 19th century. Hortensia decides to take a stage coach, firmly deciding to go to the place.

Book Fair 2022 Palau del Vidre

On Sunday, May 22, a Book Fair in Palau del Vidre (Pyrénées-Orientales) will take place.

At 3 p.m., I will participate in a discussion with the authors Catherine Barcelonne and Elisabet Guillot about the fantastic novel. At this time, I will reveal some of my writing processes and we will talk about the different influences of this style. Come and meet us for an interesting theme.

Feedback about this event

We were 35 authors and everything went well. I met the public and professionals. My conversation about the fantastic novel met some success. I enjoyed working on this theme with Elisabet Guillot and Catherine Barcelonne and listened to readings of other authors. Thank you all.

Looking it from a different perspective

Saturday 11th, I went to a book fair organized at the gardens of plants in Saint Cyprien. It was a lovely place. This time, I took on the role of a reader to visit several authors and authors. This experience was very enlightening professionally and I thank them. Some have explained to me what is important for them in their writing and what they think about organizing a fair. I have listened carefully to them, and I have presented myself and our exchanges have been interesting.
This immersion as a reader brought me another perspective on the profession of writing. Meeting other artists is also a way to be ready for your own meetings / conferences and create opportunities for collaborations.
